It formed on August 3, 1899, reached its peak of 150 mph (241 km/h) and a minimum pressure of 930 mb on August 7, 1899, and made landfall at 35.2°N, 75.8°W on August 18, 1899 as a Category 3 hurricane (121 mph). It rapidly intensified by 46 mph in 24 hours (to 138 mph on August 7, 1899). The storm lasted 32.8 days and travelled about 8,640 miles (13,902 km).
