Hurricane Alex (2016) was a Category 1 hurricane of the 2016 Atlantic season. It formed on January 7, 2016, 166 mi NE of Nassau, Bahamas, reached its peak of 86 mph (139 km/h) and a minimum pressure of 978 mb on January 14, 2016, and made landfall near Praia da Vitória, Portugal on January 15, 2016 as a tropical storm (63 mph). It rapidly intensified by 34 mph in 24 hours (to 86 mph on January 14, 2016). The storm lasted 10.0 days and travelled about 5,508 miles (8,863 km).
